Mornings are hard. Always in a hurry, multiple meltdowns, smelling the dirty diaper just as you set him in the car seat kind of hard. Getting two toddlers out the door every morning with everything we all need and arriving at our destination on time rarely happens. But, I have found something that helps just a little bit. And if you’re a working mom, or any kind of mom trying to get out the door, a little bit of help can go a long way!
Let me disclaimer by saying my oldest child is only four. Rest assured, he will learn the basic life skill of tying his shoes by the appropriate time frame, but for now, these little things called Hickies are going on any of his shoes with laces that tie!
I found these tie-free laces at a local pharmacy, but you can also get them here. They come in a variety of colors, and even adult sizes! I haven’t tried them for myself yet, but I do have a couple of pairs where they would make a whole lot of sense. I can’t be the only one who has to stop the treadmill mid-workout to tie her shoes…
As you can see, we got a set of black and a set of white. There are a number of ways to thread these things to make them looser or tighter depending on your needs. Once you get the hang of it, they’re super easy to pull through and connect. We got multiple pairs of shoes out of one package. I even threw a couple on my one-year-old’s church shoes. Who in their right mind puts LONG leather laces on a baby shoe. Especially a size where they’re just learning to walk?!?
I will say, we got these at just the right time. We’re at that age when my big guy wants to do everything on his own. Now, this adds another thing to encourage his independence. And now that I think about it, before we switched the laces to Hickies, he never wanted to wear these shoes and only ever wanted to wear boots… rain boots, cowboy boots, “cold” boots. Why do you think that is? Because he could slip them on all by himself.
So, whether you’re looking to shave a little time off your morning routine, or encourage more independence within your little one, these have been a big hit at our house!

Hope you have a wonderful day!
